Ricon Corporation takes the safety and security of its consumers and customers seriously. As part of our continuing quality and safety review processes, we recently determined that certain Ricon® S Series® & K Series® Classic and Titanium Model Wheelchair lifts do not meet certain provisions of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 403.

As a result, Ricon is implementing a shipment hold until a remedy can be implemented. Ricon filed a Non-Compliance Information Report on Friday, April 30, 2021 with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) – reference Transaction ID 21-002702-25948-10.

Please be advised that it is a violation of federal law to sell or deliver an item of motor vehicle equipment that has been determined to contain a non-compliance until it is remedied and doing so may subject you to civil penalties.

This recall does not impact S&K lifts currently in use or the sale and delivery of aftermarket replacement parts. At this time, S&K lifts that are currently in service may continue to be safely used. Ricon does not believe that the non-compliance that has been identified presents a safety risk and intends to submit a petition for inconsequential treatment to NHTSA.

Ricon has identified and validated a remedy and we are in the process of procuring the necessary components and preparing retrofit instructions to modify lifts that have not already been placed into service. We are targeting to have remediation kits available for field installation for units not already placed in service as well as to resume production activities as soon as possible. Ricon will continue to accept orders for the S&K lift as modified, however, standard lead times may be impacted.
